Flashdance Review

On 20/12/10 I went to see Flashdance the musical in Shaftesbury Theatre, London. Arlene Phillips was the choreographer. I noticed that lots of stylised, contemporary dance was used throughout the show. The ensemble dance team all had excellent physical fitness and had a very strong, classical dance technique. Each performer was incredibly focused on their role and had been through years and years of training. I really enjoyed the dramatic physical setting, live orchestra music and overall lively atmosphere of this show.

Reflection of class

I found taking part in these classes were a very enjoyable and useful learning experience. Each teacher taught their exercises and routines extremely quickly, and alot of stamina was needed to continuously practise and rehearse the material. This helped me realise that I needed to fully focus and concentrate to pick up the steps. After learning the routine we then performed it in front of each other. I made some new friends and really enjoyed the day.

Movement Memory Class Session 1 - Lily Hayward Smith

In this Interdisciplinary Performance Practice session we looked into memories and how we could use them to create movement. We had to think back and revisit a personal, familiar place. I chose a close friends bedroom. I felt cosy, safe, secure and protected while remembering events that happened in this space. We then had to reinact actually being in the space, and speak as we did actions and movement. This was very emotional and I found myself remembering even more things that happened in this space. I found this session very interesting and really enjoyed using memories as movement inspiration.
